Job Description

OVERALL OBJECTIVE AND PURPOSE

 

Responsible for designing, ordering, configuring, and implementing telecommunications networks – to include both voice and data.  Responsible for planning and carrying out activities related to network monitoring, operations, and maintenance.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Plans and implements Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), and voice networking systems.
  • Provides expertise in the design, integration, and management of computer networks.
  • Plans and implements network standards to support the global communications network.
  • Evaluates and implements network communications devices such as routers, switches, hubs between heterogeneous computer networks.
  • Evaluates and implements Network Management tools to monitor/evaluate network performance.
  • Performs upgrades of network systems – to include routers, switches, firewalls, and WAN devices.
  • Assists in performing existing network system analysis and evaluation and prepares concise reports as to the results including recommendations for updates, repairs, and reconfigurations where necessary.
  • Monitors network connections to ensure optimal network performance.
  • Identifies steps necessary to ‘fine-tune’ network.
  • Schedules, plans, and performs periodic scheduled maintenance to ensure systems are operating at optimal levels.
  • Responds to customer problems and works problems to resolution.
  • Documents steps taken to resolve customer problems and shares information with peers and problem management.
  • Interfaces with customers to assist them in resolving technical issues.
  • Troubleshoots network problems and takes steps to resolve network issues.
  • Assists in reducing costs by monitoring network connections to ensure optimal network performance. Engineers steps necessary to ‘fine-tune’ network.
  • Schedules, plans, and performs periodic scheduled maintenance to ensure systems are operating at optimal levels.
  • Creates Request for Changes and performs assessments of RFCs for multiple jurisdictions.
  • Provides training and mentors Network Analysts and Network Technicians to assist them in the performance of their assigned duties.

 

Job Requirements

EDUCATION

 

Minimum education

  • 4 year degree

Years Experience

  • 5 years or 8 to 10 without a degree

Essential special training requirements

  • CCNP Certification (Required)
  • CCSP Certification (Suggested)
