Job Description

OVERALL OBJECTIVE AND PURPOSE
The Project Manager III (Senior Project Manager) is responsible for planning, coordinating, directing, leading, and controlling the implementation of large scale and/or highly complex projects.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop project objectives based on predefined customer strategy
Define scope of effort required to meet objectives
Define activities, sequences of events, dependencies and duration of tasks required to complete the project
Manage resources and materials committed to the project
Facilitate team building and communication
Provide direction and decision making for problem resolution
Implement corporate operating procedures including communication, documentation, quality, and change control processes
Coordinate, approve and track all project related expenses including all hours, materials and services
Assess and manage risk associated with strategic, technical, financial, political and/or business factors facing the project
Coordinate across all corporate and regional departments and disciplines to ensure timely and quality product and service deliverables to the project
Act as a primary interface between GTECH and the customer project team
Coordinate all project matters and monitor on a daily basis; assign/delegate tasks as appropriate
Report progress in writing on a weekly basis. Identify internal and external factors jeopardizing the project, escalate issues and recommend solutions to matrix manager
Analyze, review and forecast project spending with Finance
Coordinate post project review of policies and procedures employed with a view to improve future projects performance
Perform post project employee performance reviews
Mentor and train less experienced Project Managers and/or Project Specialists
Participate as a Subject Matter Expert during planning or process review meetings
Prepare responses to proposals regarding GTECH’s project management approach, clarifying project objectives in situations where the Request for Proposal (RFP) may be ambiguous
Assist in strategic planning for customer accounts (for a bid or upgrade) and budget creation with the ability to determine what is missing/should be included
As required, manage requirements (business, functional, non-functional, system)
SCOPE
Complexity: Functions Responsible for or Influenced
High – Projects typically involve conversions from Non-GTECH to GTECH systems, conversions of large scale customers from older GTECH platforms, complete system delivery, large numbers of applications, interfaces, platforms, geographical locations, deliverables, etc., and/or attempting something for the first time. Resources managed are usually 50 people or more. Senior Project Managers may be required to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

High –Manage virtual and/or international teams. Intercultural communication desired as projects will involve multiple languages and/or time zones. Reassignment to new projects as the preceding project concludes.

Financial Accountability
High – Budgets are typically $5M or more. The PM is fully accountable for the on-budget delivery of the project.

Project personnel, while still reporting to their functional manager, are expected to adhere to project policies and procedures and are responsible to perform project duties as assigned.
Level of Complexity for managing/organizing staff
High – Project resources are not always co-located and are frequently in multiple countries
GENERAL
Extent decisions governed by procedures or referred up
Issues with political and/or long term impact to the customer are generally referred up, all other decisions must adhere to guidelines set forth by corporate policy. When in doubt, decisions are referred.
Standard requirements for research and analysis
Moderate amount of research and analysis performed to understand the deliverables and any gaps in reaching the stated requirements, including how best to overcome the obstacles
Opportunity and consequence of typical errors (supervision)
Failure to control project scope and budget could result in penalties and overages
Frequency and complexity of internal business contacts
Frequent contact with numerous internal disciplines to coordinate delivery of project requirements
Frequency and complexity of external business contacts
Frequent contact with the customer, vendors, and subcontractors dependant on complexity of project and resource availability
Physical (% time: travel, operating machinery, environmental etc.)
50-75% travel (domestic and/or international) for most projects
Job Requirements
EDUCATION
Minimum Education Required
Bachelor's degree (preferably in Management, Business or Information Technology) or equivalent experience.
Years Experience
8+ years of project management experience with demonstrated success delivering systems on-time, within budget, and in-scope. Should possess international experience implementing projects that required working with customers and/or vendors of different cultures/languages.
Certification
o Knowledge of CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration)
o Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification from the Project Management Institute or PRINCE2 Certification Certification Practitioner Level from OGC
Essential special training requirements
Must have intermediate to advanced proficiency using MS Project and MS Office.
